During high school in the late 90s, I was a drummer and music fanatic. The internet wasn’t sexy yet, and most kids my age only used computers for gaming, homework, and instant messaging. But there was Napster. I remember those days like they were yesterday: no longer did I have to spend money buying CDs for $20 apiece and making radio mix tapes on my boom box! With Napster, I could search any artist and download music for free. It was truly liberating. Even though the service was relatively short lived, it succeeded in opening my eyes to the huge world of music, and the power of ideas on the web.
I’m Taylor, and I’m a writer, musician (still drumming, you know it), and designer/programmer from Chicago, Illinois. I love new music … love getting relatively small-time names into the spotlight for some deserved recognition. I also love the place where web design and functionality converge: a lively intersection to say the least, where the variables are always changing.
The whole point of Free Indie Music Downloads is to give you, the Curious Listener, a place to explore. It’s hard to stay on top of new music these days, unless you have no life and can sit at home on your computer all day. Hopefully, this site will be a place you will return to often. We’ll do our best to have lots of new music here throughout the week. Whether you’re a band, solo artist, or curious browser, this site is for you. Consider sending us a message, linking to our site from your website or blog, or hitting up our Facebook page. We’d love to hear from you.
